‘We need flexible, modular environments that house hybrid healthtech activities’
As healthcare continues to undergo rapid transformation, innovation ecosystems must evolve to meet the sector’s increasingly complex demands. In this interview, Benjamin Tillier, co-founder and CEO of Hive Services, explains how Hive is building a pan-European healthtech network from Luxembourg—connecting key players, driving collaboration, and shaping a real estate vision that supports hybrid innovation environments.

Can you tell us a bit about Hive Services? What are your ambitions?
Over my career as an entrepreneur and VC investor, I've learned that innovating successfully in the health industry is exceptionally challenging, with numerous complex and costly steps causing 90% of projects to fail prematurely. I’ve observed that only those who meet the right people (investors, partners, providers, researchers, clients or public entities) at the right time all along their development journey have a real chance of success. Recognising this, we created Hive—a Luxembourg-based pan-European network that maximises health innovation success by actively connecting people with mutual interests. Our ambition is to significantly boost the ecosystem and solidify Luxembourg as a centre of excellence in health innovation globally.
How are you positioned at the heart of the Luxembourg healthcare ecosystem? How do you contribute to it?
An effective healthcare ecosystem relies on three pillars: collaboration (between innovators, investors, researchers, providers, and institutions), rapid knowledge exchange (clinical, regulatory, technological), and seamless access to resources (investment, expertise, infrastructure). At Hive, that’s exactly what we do. We collaborate closely with key public and private players to address these pillars: we leverage our extensive network to foster connections and create new collaboration opportunities for industry players, we actively facilitate knowledge sharing, and we help find the necessary resources. We’re not only at the heart of the ecosystem. We help shape it and give it a cross-border dimension that will make Luxembourg the ideal place for innovation in this field.
How do you see healthcare needs evolving, in Luxembourg and more generally?
Digital transformation, personalised medicine, and preventive approaches are increasingly driving healthcare needs. Integrating AI, telemedicine, and real-time data analytics reshapes patient care and operational effectiveness. With its advanced infrastructure, Luxembourg is positioned to lead by supporting innovative solutions, digital healthcare initiatives, and strengthened public-private partnerships.
What are the investment opportunities related to healthcare development? What trends need to be taken into account?
Investment opportunities are abundant, particularly in personalised healthcare, telemedicine, wearable health technologies, proactive wellness management, and data-driven patient engagement solutions. At Hive, we help innovators and investors effectively navigate these opportunities, ensuring smooth transitions from concept to market.
In relation to real estate, what are the future needs of the healthcare ecosystem?
An effective ecosystem needs proximity and communication amongst its members. To make innovation thrive, we need to create a campus attitude – create spaces that foster exchqnges and community building. Cafés and restaurants are as important as shared lab spaces and IT infrastructure. From an infrastructure viewpoint, we need flexible, modular environments that house hybrid healthtech activities: clinical validation, digital R&D, telehealth services, and preventive care hubs. Real estate becomes an enabler of innovation, helping bridge healthcare's physical and digital dimensions.
Luxembourg, with its forward-looking infrastructure like the upcoming HE:AL Campus, is already paving the way. However, we also need to adopt a phygital approach. To develop an efficient, pan-European innovation hub, you need to bring together all the players in the ecosystem, even if they are not physically in the same place.
