LuxReal has renewed its executive board, welcoming new members. We invited them to introduce themselves and share their perspectives on the challenges facing the real estate sector in Luxembourg. Franz Kerger (A&O Shearman) explains the importance of platform like LuxReal to drive progress. The challenge, today, is to help professionals to turn their ambitions into reality.

Partner at A&O Shearman
Executive Board Member – LuxReal

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your career ?

Like Tom Hamen - whom I warmly congratulate on his appointment to the executive board - I’m originally from Diekirch, in the north of Luxembourg. I pursued my studies in law and corporate finance in Paris before returning to Luxembourg, where I was admitted to the Bar and began my career as a tax lawyer at A&O (now A&O Shearman). Over the years, I’ve advised on many real estate transactions, both domestically and internationally. Today, I am a partner within a great team of tax professionals at A&O Shearman. The focus of my practice is on structuring investment funds and transactions, as well as representing clients before Luxembourg courts in tax related matters.

Why did you decide to join the LuxReal board? How would you like to contribute to the association?

When I received the invitation to apply for board membership, I didn’t hesitate. LuxReal is the leading association in our field, bringing together professionals with diverse expertise but a shared focus on real estate in and beyond Luxembourg. As a tax lawyer, I’m well aware that real estate tax legislation can be complex and intimidating. I want to help demystify these rules, making them more understandable. My goal is to empower people to invest confidently, fully understanding their obligations. I believe those of us with experience in the industry have a responsibility to give back—whether through training, mentorship, or knowledge-sharing.

What does LuxReal mean to you? Why is this association essential today?

To me, LuxReal represents a vibrant and influential community. It brings together passionate professionals, fosters meaningful connections, and drives progress in the real estate sector. The association plays a crucial role in gathering insights, listening to its members, and delivering the right messages to the right stakeholders. Especially in today’s evolving landscape, this kind of platform is more important than ever.

What is your view of the Luxembourg real estate market today and, more generally, of the development of the real estate business from Luxembourg?

The market has certainly seen better days, but it’s far from bleak. What’s most important now is rebuilding trust- so that people can once again turn their ambitions into reality. Luxembourg remains a strong and stable hub for real estate, and I believe we’re well-positioned for a positive rebound.

What do you see as the main challenges facing the sector in the coming months?

Rather than focusing solely on challenges, I prefer to look at the opportunities. New players, including family offices, are entering the market, acquiring, developing, and managing significant assets. These developments signal confidence in Luxembourg’s stability and long-term potential. It’s an encouraging time, and I believe we’ll continue to see dynamic growth and innovation in the months ahead.
